" Travel Guide "

Hi !!
Planning a holiday to Chettinad ??? Fine then you are in for a treat of world class Architectural Work. Talking of the climate, Chettinad is primarily a dry region. I think you have got what i am trying to tell you. Never plan your trip to Chettinad during the Summer. Damn hot say 40 degrees. Isn't that real scorching out ?? Recommented clothes to be carried Loose fit, cotton wear.
Now thats for what you will have to carry to Chettinad. Coming to places to visit, there are only a few Government recognized tourist places to visit, but you do have more in here to look out for. Then to my knowledge there are no official guides available to take you around the region.
Now to start, the nearest Airport to Chettinad is Madurai. You could take a fly to Madurai, and then travel by road to Karaikudi, the biggest & the busiest town in Chettinad. Its a pretty sweet 2 hours drive or take a bus from any place in Tamil Nadu to Karaikudi. There are a lot of lodges available here for your accomodation.
Karaikudi is a centrally located town in Chettinad, well known for its Alagappa University and yes not to forget the CECRI. This place is termed to be the " Capital of Chettinad ." The distinguished things to look out for in Karaikudi and around it are many.

Kamban Mani Mandabam :

It is believed that the Great Tamil Poet Kavi Chakravarthy Kamban spent most of his lifetime in Nattrasankottai , Chettinad and also died here in the same place. So to honour him Kamban Mani Mandabam was built by the Nagarthars and every year Tamil Literary programmes are conducted there.

Kaviarasu Kannadadan Mani Mandabam :

Located opposite the New Bus Stand in Karaikudi is this place a Memorial of  Kaviarasu Kannadasan. It has two entrances and in between the two is the Statue of kaviarasu Kannadasan. This Mandabam (Hall) has a library, art gallery and a photo exhibition hall.

Pilliyarpatti Temple :

This is an ancient Lord Ganesh temple built during the late 18th century. This temple is appro. 12 kms away from Karakudi via Tirupathur. This temple of Lord Ganesh is famous all over the World. The idol is appro. 6 feet in height and possess the trunk in the right side. It is a cave temple.

Kundrakudi Murugan Koil :

This temple is situated 8 kms to the west of Karaikudi. Kundrakudi Murugan koil is built on the peacock shaped hill in Karaikudi region. Apart from Lord Shanmuganathan, Lord Thenootrunathar and Goddess Amman shrines are also there. This temple is also famous for its Navagraha Sannathi. The Navagraha idols in this sannathi are all in the same direction towards Lord Shanmuganathan. Now you may be wondering what is the speciality out there. It is believed that no Navagraha idol should face each other because they may lead to calamities.

Apart from all this, your tour will be incomplete if you don't happen to visit the Mansion Houses of Chettinad pls note.Don't forget to carry your Camera along. Have a nice holiday !!.
